AMS800(R) 人工尿道括約筋の保険適用が開始される ～尿失禁に苦しむ全ての患者に、世界標準の治療法(※1)を提供～

男性及び女性の骨盤周辺部位疾患での治療において世界トップレベルの医療機器と治療を提供している米国アメリカン・メディカル・システムズ社(American Medical Systems, Inc.、本社：米国ミネソタ州、以下 AMS)の日本法人である日本AMS株式会社(本社：東京都港区、代表取締役：倉田 進、以下 日本AMS)は、本日、同社の人工尿道括約筋であるAMS800(R) 人工尿道括約筋(AUS)の保険適用が2012年4月1日付けで開始されたことを発表しました。

AMS800は、尿失禁の治療法として40年に渡り世界中で使用されており、その長期的な使用実績からくる安全性と有効性は、前立腺癌手術後に一定の低い割合で発生する中等度から重度の尿失禁においては標準的な手術療法となっています(※1)(※2)。なお、日本泌尿器科学会が行った最近の調査(※3)によると、2004年には日本で約16,000件の前立腺全摘出手術が行われています。

AMS800は、患者の体内に埋め込み、完全に外からは見えない形で使用する医療器具で、排尿調節機能を回復することができます(※4)。日本での尿失禁治療は、特に男性においては実質的にパッドやおむつによる治療法が採用されていますが、この度の保険適用により、これに代わる選択肢としてAMS800による治療を受けやすくなります。

東北大学病院 泌尿器科の荒井 陽一教授は次の通り述べています。
「我々の調査によると、前立腺癌手術患者のうち、重度の尿失禁を抱えている患者は1-3％います(※3)。しかし日本ではパッドやおむつといった対症療法が主です。AMS800は重度の尿失禁患者の治療法として有効であり、この度の保険適用は、我々にとっても患者様にとっても喜ばしいことです。」
