石巻工房は、今年の３月１１日の株式会社化１０周年にあたり、カリモク家具との業務提携を締結いたしました。この１０周年を機に石巻工房のリブランディングを行い、カリモク家具との更なる連携により家具ブランドとして前進をしてまいります。

2011年3月1 1日に発生した東日本大震災で被害を受けた宮城県石巻市。そのコミュニティの復興を目的として、石巻工房は生まれました。当初はDIY可能なシンプルな家具などをつくるための公共工房としてスタートし、地元の人々が材料や道具で修理することができる場所でした。
その後、時間とともに職人の手による家具の価値や魅力が広く知られ、製品を東北地方以外にも届けるため、2014年に株式会社として更なるステップを踏むこととなりました。
私たちは、当初から実用的なフォルム、機能性、耐久性とシンプルなデザインが融合したものづくりを目指し、普通の人々の日常生活のための製品をつくり続けてきました。日々、日本の木工の長い伝統に根ざし、すべて「Maker Made」の高品質でモダンな家具を生み出しています。
石巻工房は、ビジネス戦略やブランディング、マーケティングがその基礎ではありません。しかしこの10年で、「自分でやること（DIY）」は「一人でやること」ではないと学んだのです。素晴らしいコミュニティを創造することは、素晴らしい家具をつくることと同じくらい重要です。石巻工房というプロジェクトの成長とともに、私たちのグローバルコミュニティも拡張しています。私たちの家具は、優れたデザイン以上のものを象徴し、届ける存在になっています。

2011年以来、石巻工房のブランドはユーザーやコミュニティのニーズに合わせて進化してきました。 江戸時代からそのルーツを持つ日本最大規模の木製家具メーカーであるカリモク家具とのパートナーシップは、私たちの誇りです。

カリモク家具の起源は、創業者の加藤正平が長年続く材木屋を引き継ぎ、愛知県刈谷市で小さな 木工所を始めた1940年に遡ります。様々な木製品を生産することで技術を磨き、1960年代に入ると、自社製の木製家具の販売を開始しました。高度な機械の技術と職人の技を融 合させる 「ハイテク&ハイタッチ」という製造コンセプトを掲げて木材生産分野における土台をつくりあげ、 日本を代表する木製家具メーカーへと成長を遂げています。

石巻工房×カリモク家具の「Maker Pack」ラインは、カリモク家具の幅広い繋がりとリソースを活用しながらシンプルなデザインを高度な製造技術に適応させています。「Maker Pack」は世界中に 簡単に発送できるようになっており、カーボンフットプリントを削減します。現代的なスタイルと 文化的な伝統が融合したこの革新的なコラボレーションは、新旧のよさを融合しています。

March 11th this year marked the 10th anniversary of Ishinomaki Laboratory's establishment as a company, where we have partnered with Karimoku Furniture, a leading wooden manufacturer in Japan. With the new chapter, the rebranded Ishinomaki Laboratory evolves into a furniture brand that will be closely collaborating with Karimoku Furniture to come out with a line of products.

On March 11, 2011, ISHINOMAKI LABORATORY was founded to make simple furniture with a single goal: to rebuild our community that was devastated by the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami.
ISHINOMAKI LABORATORY began as a communal facility in the coastal city of Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture where local residents could access materials and tools for their repair projects in the wake of the disaster. Over time, the value and appeal of artisanal furniture became increasingly evident, and the company was established to bring our handmade products beyond northeast Japan.

Utilitarian forms, functionality, and durability merge with simple design. Our products have been created for ordinary people and everyday lives. We tap into a long tradition of Japanese woodworking to offer high-quality, modern furniture that is entirely Maker Made.We didn’t start ISHINOMAKI LABORATORY with business strategy, branding, or marketing in mind, and in the last ten years, we’ve learned that “doing it yourself” doesn’t mean doing it alone. As our project grows, so does our global community - and our furniture has come to symbolize so much more than great design.

Since 2011, the ISHINOMAKI LABORATORY brand has also evolved to meet the needs of our customers and community. We are proud to partner with Karimoku, one of the largest makers of wooden furniture in Japan with a lineage that stretches back to the Edo period.
The modern company known as Karimoku Furniture was founded in 1940, when Shohei Kato took over a longstanding timber company and set up a small woodworking studio in the town of Kariya, Aichi Prefecture. The company produced various wooden parts and honed its technical expertise before launching its own line of furniture in the 1960s. In order to create artisanal products that are both high-tech and
high-touch, Karimoku established bases in timber production areas and thereafter developed into one of Japan’s leading manufacturers of wooden furniture. ISHINOMAKI LABORATORY’s Maker Pack line adapts our clean designs to advanced manufacturing techniques while leveraging Karimoku’s robust
networks and resources. These pieces of furniture come in Maker Packs that can be easily shipped around the world, reducing our carbon footprint. Contemporary style meets cultural heritage in this innovative collaboration that blends the best of new and old.

The “Maker Pack” collection based on the concept of “Maker Made” will be on display for the first time at Interior Lifestyle 2024 starting today. We look forward to seeing you there.
