　「日吉屋」は、5代160年以上もの間、受け継がれてきた「京和傘」の技法を継承する京都で唯一の工房です。茶道家元御用達の本式野点傘や、能や歌舞伎など伝統芸能の舞台、寺社仏閣での伝統行事等に使用される各種和傘の制作および修復を行っており、骨組みが放射状に広がるシルエットや、光を透かした色彩の美しさなど、日本文化が育んだ和傘特有の美とその伝統の技を守り続けています。本体験企画は、「知る・感じる・楽しむ」をコンセプトに“京都の奥深さ”や、よりディープな京都へ特別にご案内する宿泊者限定の観光体験プログラム「OKUTRIP KYOTO」の新たなアクティビティで、番傘に和紙を貼る工程(胴張り)を職人に習いながら体験し、そのなせる技を通して、受け継がれるものづくりの心にも触れていただくものです。

Experience the Spirit of Craftsmanship passed down through Generations

　The Keihan Group’s flagship hotel, THE THOUSAND KYOTO (Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto City; Miwa Sakurai, General Manager), starts accepting bookings today for our new program starting on Apr10, (Wed) - making your own Ban-gasa umbrella at Hiyoshiya, a Kyo-wagasa umbrella shop established in the late Edo period - for OKUTRIP KYOTO, an exclusive program inviting hotel guests into the depths of Kyoto.

　Hiyoshiya is the only workshop in Kyoto that has inherited the Kyo-wagasa technique passed down through five generations for over 160 years. Hiyoshiya makes and restores traditional nodate outdoor umbrellas used by tea ceremony masters, as well as various Japanese umbrellas used in traditional performing arts stages such as Noh and Kabuki, as well as traditional events at temples and shrines. The unique aesthetics of Japanese umbrellas, such as the beauty of colors that shine through the light, and the traditional techniques that have been cultivated by Japanese culture continue to be preserved. OKUTRIP KYOTO provides an experience into the deeper parts of Kyoto. With our newly added program, a craftsman teaches participants the dohari process of pasting washi paper on a Ban-gasa, and through the techniques, participants experience the spirit of craftsmanship that has been passed down from generation to generation. THE THOUSAND KYOTO, a 1000 Year Hotel that pursues comfort for the next 1,000 years from the Thousand-year Capital Kyoto, supports the inheritance of traditional culture through this activity.
